Oct 15, 2018 - It's a lot easier to play Mac games with a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One controller than you might think. Why I've listed each controller here according to ease of use and setup. MacOS Mojave lets you use an eGPU with a MacBook Pro display. About Us Contact Us Mac OS X Hints Ad Choices Digital. X-Box Controller Modification to Work on PC/Mac: Electrical modification to make your Classix X-Box controller work on your PC under Windows XP or on your Mac under OS X.Step-by-step instructions for rewiring that even a beginner can follow.SOFTWARE:On OSX install Xbox HID Driver for Mac OS X. So, I went through with this, though, since I already had two spares of the xbox plug part but no controllers for them I simply stripped down one and added the USB like so. However, the controller I'm connecting is an old Acteck joystick, now that I'm done, the acteck software doesn't recognize the controller, but Windows 10 still detects it as an 'XBOX gamepad' however, it tells me there was a problem installing the driver. I then go to install the one you provide with the same results. The printer and hardware section recognizes it only as a 'generic usb hub'. Did I messed up, or is this a software issue? Well the problem is the driver doesn't install because 'Win10 needs to have signed INF files. And because Inf can't be signed directly - it needs to have '.cat' file that contains digital signature.' -Press Start -Click on Power -Hold down Shift and press Restart -Navigate to Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> Startup Settings and press Restart -Wait for Windows to restart and when prompted press 7 for Disable driver signature enforcement and wait for Windows to come up -Install XBCD and allow it to install the driver If it's still not working Device Manager-> Unknown device-> update driver-> search my machine -> C: Program Files (x86) XBCD Driver. So yeah at first I wasn't planning to do the 2 part to link back at the Xbox via USB. But I had the same problem as you (seemingly not working, generic usb hub) so I was wondering if that was a hardware or software problem, as it's my first time doing this. After reading this guide I did the second part (xbox connector to female usb) and tested the modified controller on the xbox: seemed to work well, so I think the link is all ok, so I guess it's a software problem. XBCD driver is a bit of a pain it seems.

In order to disable IPv6 on newer OS X versions, you will need to run a command through the Terminal application. Please note that any changes to the network. Supporting IPv6 DNS64/NAT64 Networks With IPv4 address pool exhaustion imminent, enterprise and cellular providers are increasingly deploying IPv6 DNS64 and NAT64 networks. A DNS64/NAT64 network is an IPv6-only network that continues to provide access to IPv4 content through translation. Depending on the nature of your app, the transition has different implications: • If you’re writing a client-side app using high-level networking APIs such as and the CFNetwork frameworks and you connect by name, you should not need to change anything for your app to work with IPv6 addresses. If you aren’t connecting by name, you probably should be. See to learn how. For information on CFNetwork, see. • If you’re writing a server-side app or other low-level networking app, you need to make sure your socket code works correctly with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. What’s Driving IPv6 Adoption Major network service providers, including major cellular carriers in the the United States, are actively promoting and deploying IPv6. This is due to a variety of factors. Note: World IPv6 Launch is an organization that tracks deployment activity at a global scale. To see recent trends, visit the. IPv4 Address Depletion For decades, the world has known that IPv4 addresses would eventually be depleted. Technologies such as Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) and network address translation (NAT) helped delay the inevitable. However, on January 31, 2011, the top-level pool of Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) IPv4 addresses was officially exhausted. The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) is projected to run out of IPv4 addresses in the summer of 2015—a countdown is available. IPv6 More Efficient than IPv4 Aside from solving for the IPv4 depletion problem, IPv6 is more efficient than IPv4. For example, IPv6: • Avoids the need for network address translation (NAT) • Provides faster routing through the network by using simplified headers • Prevents network fragmentation • Avoids broadcasting for neighbor address resolution 4G Deployment The fourth generation of mobile telecommunication technology (4G) is based on packet switching only. Due to the limited supply of IPv4 addresses, IPv6 support is required in order for 4G deployment to be scalable. Multimedia Service Compatibility IP Multimedia Core Network Subsystem (IMS) allows services such as multimedia SMS messaging and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) to be delivered over IP. The IMS used by some service providers is compatible with IPv6 only. Cost Service providers incur additional operational and administrative costs by continuing to support the legacy IPv4 network while the industry continues migrating to IPv6. DNS64/NAT64 Transitional Workflow To help slow the depletion of IPv4 addresses, NAT was implemented in many IPv4 networks. Although this solution worked temporarily, it proved costly and fragile. Today, as more clients are using IPv6, providers must now support both IPv4 and IPv6. This is a costly endeavor. Figure 10-1 A cellular network that provides separate IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity Ideally, providers want to drop support for the IPv4 network. However, doing so prevents clients from accessing IPv4 servers, which represent a significant portion of the Internet. To solve this problem, most major network providers are implementing a DNS64/NAT64 transitional workflow. This is an IPv6-only network that continues to provide access to IPv4 content through translation. Figure 10-2 A cellular network that deploys an IPv6 network with DNS64 and NAT64 In this type of workflow, the client sends DNS queries to a DNS64 server, which requests IPv6 addresses from the DNS server. When an IPv6 address is found, it’s passed back to the client immediately. However, when an IPv6 address isn’t found, the DNS64 server requests an IPv4 address instead. The DNS64 server then synthesizes an IPv6 address by prefixing the IPv4 address, and passes that back to the client. In this regard, the client always receives an IPv6-ready address. See Figure 10-3. Figure 10-3 DNS64 IPv4 to IPv6 translation process When the client sends a request to a server, any IPv6 packets destined for synthesized addresses are automatically routed by the network through a NAT64 gateway. The gateway performs the IPv6-to-IPv4 address and protocol translation for the request. It also performs the IPv4 to IPv6 translation for the response from the server. Morning people! I've been thinking of getting a MBP 13' when the next revision comes out, which, I'd assume, will keep the Intel 3000 HD as its IGP. Because this GPU is relatively similar to the 320m, I assumed it'd have a similar performance all-around, including when emulating Playstation 2 games, with the PSCX2 software. I intend to have my future laptop do a lot of tasks, one of them being emulating PS2 gaming. However, after some research, it appears that that might not be true. While the data is scarce, I'd like to know what have been the experiences of Mac-users with their MBP 13', for those who emulate Playstation 2 on their laptops. I know that it works fine on the NVidea 320m (there's youtube proof of that); even on the MBA 13' 2010 it runs decently! Play retro games online in your browser! The best quality emulator online for GBA (Game Boy Advance), SNES (Super Nintendo), SEGA (Genesis & Mega Drive). PCSX2 a Playstation 2 emulator for Windows, Linux and Mac. (For the sake of discussion, let us assume there is no dedicated GPU coming on the MBP 13' revision.) Keep in mind I do not care if you resort to OS X, or Bootcamp Windows. I have no trouble Bootcamping if I ever need a specific software to be run, or performance to be achieved. What I'd like, however, to know, is how well the Intel HD 3000 has been treating you in this particular department! Cheers, Blues003. Click to expand.I'd think so too. While the data is scarce, however, it does not point that way. (OP mentions gaming is 'very laggy') (Not directly about a MBP, but about a laptop with Intel HD 3000; overall idea is that this IGP will stop him from playing 'many games') (same as above; notice how one user says the INtel HD 3000 is 'crap for PCSX2') I'd rather not rely on what Ivy Bridge might or might not deliver when making my decision to buy a laptop. Curious how a 2010 model will probably deliver better. Could be driver issues with the PS2 emulator. I remember when the PS1 emulator was fairly new and specific drivers had to be installed with your computer depending on what graphics card you had. I think I had an ATI Radeon 9200 or something like that. Really long time ago. Anyways, enough of my tangent. I would honestly see if there is a driver issue with the Intel HD 3000, and if there is, ask if they will update it to accomodate it. Otherwise, you might have to get a discrete graphics card. My name is Brian and I've recently started to save up for a new mac for this upcoming March. I've done some research and asked some producer friend's their opinions as to which is the best decision for power, long term, speed etc. The issue I'm having is the friends are saying go with the new MacBook pro because it's versatile, mobile and most studios will move more in that direction because of the USB-C and new Thunderbolt. As well you could always plug it in to an external monitor. May 15, 2012 - The mac pro will be better if you want an internal dedicated sound card instead of firewire or usb. This would offer reduced latency and greater. My gut however says go with the Imac fully loaded because it's a faster, more powerful machine. 5K retina display and seems like it will be applicable for when I move into a more professional setting. It seems you get the most for your investment and I couldn't see myself doing much travelling at least anytime soon. Now I would get a mac pro but it seems way out of my budget for the time being and i'm not financing. I'll be using Avid ProTools, an apollo twin duo interface, steven slate drums, UAD plug ins, etc The only issue is they are the same price.below are the specs for both.PLEASE HELP! ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY GREATLY APPRECIATED! • 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz • 8GB 1867MHz DDR3 SDRAM - two 4GB (WILL UPGRADE W/ 3RD PARTY TO 32GB $200) • 512GB Flash Storage • AMD Radeon R9 M390 with 2GB video memory $2,439.00 VS. • Touch Bar and Touch ID • 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz • 16GB 2133MHz memory • 512GB PCIe-based SSD • Radeon Pro 450 with 2GB memory • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports $2,689.00 OR. • Touch Bar and Touch ID • 3.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz • 16GB 2133MHz memory • 512GB PCIe-based SSD • Intel Iris Graphics 550 • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports • Force Touch trackpad $2,349.00 THANK YOU!! If you are set on going the Apple way and you need it right now I'd still go for the iMac. You are not going to produce your great stuff on the road anyway and spending a lot of money on something that's not the best specs you can get for your money is going to be sour grapes down the road. There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a laptop for your daw but keep in mind that plug-ins can take up a lot of cpu and ram. Some people get by on low specs other don't. If you are working with audio loops without many plug-ins working real time you can get by with a Macbook air. But lets say you have something like 20 or more different software instruments an samples each with one or more plug-ins. That's starting to eat away at your resources. The MBPs are great if you have mobility needs, otherwise, I'd opt for the iMac as you get a larger display, better CPU/GPU and you can upgrade the ram to beyond 16GB (if you need it). While we do expect to see a refresh soon and waiting is the best option I think overall the iMac is a great machine for your stated needs. If you have mobiity needs, then I'd opt for the 15' MBP, since you get a quad core processor, and a dGPU, and a better display then the 13' model (I mean more screen real estate). Click to expand. If I needed a new Mac right now and didn't absolutely need portability, I'd go for the iMac 5k. Otherwise I'd wait for the next iMac (hopefully they'll just bump the graphics to the best mobile GPU available, replace the 2xTB2 ports with TB3 and otherwise leave well alone - if they stuff it up by going all form-over-function, 20% thinner and out all the 'legacy' (hah!) ports so we'll all need to buy hub/docks for our desktops then it will be time to stop worrying and learn to love Windows). The usual deal-breaker for me with iMacs is that you're paying for a really nice screen that dies with the computer and can't really be used for anything else. However, I suspect current external 5k displays are going to have an early appointment with the recycling centre once DisplayPort 1.3/1.4, the corresponding HDMI update or some hypothetical Thunderbolt 4, supporting single-cable 5k@60Hz, become commonplace. Even the TB3 5k display is a bit of a kludge - combining two 'virtual' DisplayPort 1.2 cables into one TB3 cable. For the moment, maybe having a 5k display built in to the computer, with a custom internal interface, isn't such a bad thing. The only issue is the lack of USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 - however, at the moment, TB3/USB-C is as much a liability as an asset, especially with Apple's dongle-happy all-or-nothing approach. However, plenty of current computers from Apple and other manufacturers lack USB-C/TB3 - notably the MS Surface range - so the old-style USB3 connector isn't going away anytime soon. If you're doing audio production, though, you might want to think about whether you're going to need some sort of fast/high capacity external storage and/or if there are any nice TB3 pro audio devices in the pipeline (although I suspect that only devices that really, really need 40Gbps will drop USB-A connectivity) - if you research what you need in that respect it might affect your thinking on TB2 vs TB3. Alexa app can be operated on many platforms such as Android, Ios, Windows and Mac. Different platforms have their distinguish apps such as Alexa app for window. You will surely want to reap the benefits of the Alexa app device. There are professional assistance will prove to be a prime requisite. After presents were unwrapped across the world on Christmas morning, Amazon's [] earned the #1 spot on the iOS App Store's Top Free chart, suggesting Echo and other Alexa devices were very popular this holiday season (via ). This marks the first time the Alexa app gained a #1 spot on Apple's App Store, and it remained there for over a day. Currently, Alexa sits at #2 on the Top Free chart in the App Store, having lost the top spot today to YouTube. Amazon yesterday said that the Echo Dot was the this holiday season, as well as being 'the best-selling product from any manufacturer in any category across all of Amazon,' with millions of Echo Dots sold. With so many Echo products being purchased for Christmas and other holiday celebrations, users were led to download the Amazon Alexa app so they can set up their speaker, control it, integrate with other smart home products, and more. Data gathered from shows the Alexa app climbing the Top Free United States iOS App Store charts in the days leading up to Christmas and then peaking at #1 on December 25 and December 26. On Christmas day, the Alexa app gained prominence on the Top Free App Store charts in other countries as well, including Great Britain (rising to #2), Germany (#5), and Austria (#5). Amazon Alexa iOS app data As Amazon's Alexa devices continue to dominate the smart speaker market, Apple has plans to release its own music-focused smart speaker device -- the HomePod --. HomePod will be controlled mainly through the user's voice using Siri, and include access to Apple Music and other expected smart speaker functionalities, like asking about the weather, traffic, setting reminders, timers, and more. Exactly, I'm waiting for redesigned iOS App. For what tho? You use it like. Once to set it up. Then sporadically to add smart home devices. It functions, and that’s all you need. Yeh, this is the comment that now is in the first page of every thread about anything non-Apple. Wait away dude. Why would you ever care if the app is ever 'redesigned for the X'. As BuffaloTF said, its basically a settings app. You can technically use it like an Echo, but not sure I would ever see the point in that. We bought 3 (echo and 2 echo dots) and love them. I had a relative say in disbelief that they couldn’t believe I’d buy a non Apple product. I told them I’d have loved to buy an Apple echo device but there isn’t one. I had actually put off buying these waiting for the HomePod announcement and even waiting for the initial reviews once it shipped. After Apple pushed back the December shipping date I just went ahead and bought the echo. I’d love to throw this money at Apple but I can’t. You made the right call, even if Apple's products were available. Apple's walled garden mindset is going to work against it in this market, not to mention their over pricing. What makes Echo work so well is the vast set of skills it has, and the multiple years head start. With Apple you are going to get Siri. It will work well with the Apple stuff I'm sure, but as soon as you add anything non-Apple its going to get frustrating. For example, I've now got quite a few home automation items in play from various vendors. The one last Apple thing in use is Apple TV. I replaced my old Harmony One remote with a new Harmony Hub and Elite for Christmas. I can connect it to my Smartthings Hub, Hue Lights, and control things with the Echo. Nobody I know has more utilities and applications for their Mac than me. I have over 100 only a finger tip away. I found I can only use one at a time so I’m ready to debunk the myth of multitasking with my Mac. I use to focus and get more done. Here’s the problem. May 22, 2012 - Isolator is an open source menu bar application that helps you focus. You can easily customize the app's preferences to fit your needs,. I rely on my Mac to handle more daily tasks than ever. My Mac has a single screen and, generally speaking, I can handle one application or utility at a time. Focus is an important key to productivity. Who can focus with all that’s going on with Mac users these days? There’s email, web browsing, RSS feeds to read, reports to write, spreadsheets to, uh, well, spread. That’s for starters. There’s music and movies and TV shows and live television and home movies and stock reports and weather reports and daily comics and Stickies and Dashboard Widgets and iChat and Skype. You get the picture, right? There’s too much going on on screen. This nifty little Mac utility sits in the menu bar and in one click it will get rid of all the open applications and utilities on your Mac and let you focus on the single task at hand. Trust me, that’s more difficult than it sounds, and it works better than you think. Your Mac’s Apple menu has a similar function but doesn’t go quite far enough. For example, if you’re reading this in Safari or Firefox, click the Safari or Firefox menu selection in the Menu Bar. It’ll say ‘Safari’ or ‘Firefox.’ Midway through the menu selection you’ll see Hide Safari (Firefox), Hide Others, and Show All should be grayed out. Click on Hide Others and other open windows on your Mac disappear, including the Finder. Suddenly many of your visible screen distractions just disappeared so now you can focus on just reading Mac360, right? Isolator does a couple of things better than Tiger or Leopard. It’s all about being distraction free. Turn on Isolator and and your desktop, all the icons on the desktop, and any open applications and utilities disappear. Leopard users can also hide the Dock. With the Dock and everything else out of the way you’re free to focus on whatever you really need to get done without a bunch of visual interruptions going on in, around or near whatever you’re doing at the time. This is a good thing. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about using a Mac through the years is that I can always find something else for my Mac to do. That’s a good thing. Trying to do a bunch of things all at the same time or in some kind of pseudo-multitasking Frankenactivity is fruitless. It doesn’t work. Focus, focus, focus. Try for a couple of hours while you’re on your Mac and then tell me how much better you feel because you’re able to focus on something to completion without being distracted. Did I mention that Isolator is free? Free as in free beer, donationware. First, Isolator is yet another utility to help us become more productive on our Macs. Second, Isolator takes up space in the Menu Bar. This is yet another reason to have a widescreen Mac. I now have 17 different functions on the right side of my Mac’s Menu Bar. I’m pretty sure I forgot what two or three of them actually do for me. It took me a couple of hours to really see the beauty of what Isolator accomplishes. It helps me become a little more disciplined about working on my Mac and hides those little interruptions that distract me visually. Are you asking more of your Mac these days? What do you do to keep yourself focused on the Mac task at hand? Share your experience in the Comments section below. ISOlator makes an exact copy of CDs, DVDs, or other Volumes.
